About
Asinikahtamwak — in Cree it means "works with rock" - Frog Lake First Nations majority owned Hemp Brick manufacturing company within the Town of Elk Point, who is also a partner, alongside Natural Fibres Technologies. Reinventing the future, for our bonds and relationship with Nature and Lands, for the health of our people, for generations to come … the future is always forward.
Our mission is to facilitate the development of resilient and eco-friendly natural fibre-based materials, addressing the growing demand for environmentally-conscious building construction.
Our vision is to uplift the local community through sustainable housing and manufacturing, while the Town of Elk Point fosters economic growth and employment opportunities within the region.
The demand for environmentally friendly building materials is driven by government and corporate green procurement programs, with a projected growth in the green building industry. Our products offer distinct advantages over traditional materials, including noise reduction, thermal insulation, durability, and lighter weight, making them ideal for various construction applications.
In ancient times, everything from straw to banana leaves went into brick-making. Since then, hemp fibre has been developed, tested and used in building projects in France, England and Italy.
The high-performance building blocks are being made in a 13,000-square-foot building on the south end of Elk Point, 215 kilometres northeast of Edmonton. They are the same size as traditional cinder blocks but weigh only half as much.
With supportive government policies and a growing market trend towards sustainability, we are well-positioned to capture emerging opportunities.
